Ofsted confirms Bamford Academy continues to be a good school 

In March 2023 Ofsted carried out an ungraded inspection of Bamford Academy. Inspectors confirmed that the school continues to be a good school. 

What parents and pupils told inspectors 

Pupils said they enjoy coming to school because they make lots of nice friends. They feel happy because teachers are kind and staff know them well. Pupils feel safe and trust adults to resolve any problems. Staff deal with any occasional unkindness or bullying swiftly and effectively. 

Pupils behave well. They listen carefully in assemblies, follow instructions in lessons, are polite, keen to learn and care for each other. They understand the importance of treating everyone with respect, regardless of differences. 

What the school does well 

Leaders and governors have ensured the curriculum is ambitious and covers a broad range of subjects. It provides strong foundations in reading and mathematics. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and explain topics clearly. Reading is a priority across the school; pupils enjoy reading and read frequently. Phonics is taught by experienced, knowledgeable teachers, helping pupils – including those with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and those who speak English as an additional language – to make strong progress. 

Leaders have high aspirations for pupils with SEND. Needs are identified quickly and staff are given the information they need to support these pupils in lessons. 

Pupils enjoy many wider opportunities, including leadership roles (new library, Tech Team) and a wide range of after-school sports clubs. The school is an inclusive community where pupils learn about different cultures, languages and religions. 

Safeguarding 

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is a strong safeguarding culture. Staff receive regular training and know what to do if they have concerns. Pupils learn about potential dangers in the community and online. 

What the school is working on 

In a small number of subjects, leaders are continuing to refine the precise knowledge they want pupils to learn and when, so that every pupil is fully prepared for the next steps. Teachers are also strengthening how they check understanding across all subjects so any gaps can be addressed promptly.
